In selling advertisements, sponsorships and tickets for our upcoming evening show, Magic ‘To (The Next Level), we validated the soundness of the proverb “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
Donald Wong, our hardworking associate member in the Business Committee, reported an uphill battle selling the show to prospects. Then he hit on the idea of bringing posters with him during his client calls.
The idea was worth a ton of gold. It softened prospect resistance like…well, like magic.
The souvenir program of the original Magic ‘To
Immediately, he reported a big shift in clients’ attitude. They started warming up to the show. Both advertisements and tickets began selling briskly thereafter.
The reason for the initial lack of enthusiasm was that prospects thought Magic ‘To (The Next Level) features performances of the same garden variety magic they usually see at birthday parties. One glance at the poster, however, changed their misconception. In fact, the shift in view is so radical that ticket-buyers are now expecting a program of the same caliber as Las Vegas shows.
Now the pressure is on us.
This post is not to praise the soundness of a proverb but to muse about how lay people view magic in the Philippines. Most Filipinos still equate magic as kids’ stuff, birthday party fare or carnival entertainment.
Almost nobody thinks that magic can be raised to the level of theater, worthy of the consideration of even avid theater goers.
We hope Magic ‘To (The Next Level) will change the public’s low regard of magic.
Not only with this poster…
…But with an outstanding performance.
We hope to see you at the Philamlife Theater, UN Avenue, Manila on September 8, 2007 at 8 PM and share with us an evening of magic.
Stay magical,
Leodini
