George Mamonluk sent me pictures taken during the February 14 Romantic Magic Competition. Eight magicians competed before an SRO crowd comprising of magic fans, enthusiasts and couples on date wanting to spend a magical evening with us. As usual, we held the competition at our official meeting place, Pepeton’s Grill and Restaurant.
A whole community of magicians and clown/magicians from Tondo rented a van and motored all the way from Manila just to catch the show. They were the most enthusiastic members of the audience and provided the energy that pepped up the performers from the very start of the show.
In my opinion, Romantic Magic Competition is one of the most difficult competitions. It requires contestants not only to be skillful but creative. The criteria of the contests includes a rating for thematic relevance. It means that the contestants not only perform generic magic but also have to perform magic that tells a story about love, relationship, Cupid, Venus, and the like. In short the magic that they perform must portray or interpret a romantic theme.
When the dust settled, Erwin Reyes took the third place, Kent Estrada won the second place, and Tito Cris romped off with the first place.
Aside from the trophies, the three winners received cash prizes from generous donors George and Marie Mamonluk.
I share with the readers some of the photos sent in by George.
Third-place winner, Erwin Reyes, receives his cash prize from lovely Marie Mamonluk.
