On his way to Davao City to attend the First Philippine International Festival, Albert Tam came to Inner Magic Club’s meeting last night. He soaked up on Filipino friendliness and graciously shared his vast knowledge with Pinoy magicians who attended last night’s magic gathering.
Although the gathering coincided with IMC’s weekly meeting, representatives from other magic clubs showed up to welcome Albert and to shower him with the vaunted Filipino hospitality.
Last night’s event glowed with some big names in Philippine magic. The list of magic celebrities who attended was led by Rannie Raymundo (fresh from his stint in Hong Kong, lecturing his own materials) President Alan Rondina of MAGFI, You and Magic’s Mr. Yu Leung (enthusiast, fan, collector, and accomplished magic performer), representatives from Salamangka Filipino (including Ronnie Mariano), and young magicians from The Story Circle Philippines, Nomer and Carl.
Other prominent guests were magic innovator Anthony Co (creator of the acclaimed Mindbender DVD), Ferdinand Capito, rising star Alakhim, Arnold and the rest of the MAGFI contingent.
Dinner was again prepared by the ever gracious hosts of the evening, George and Marie Mamonluk, and Boy and Leslie Alviz.
The occasion proved to be one of the rare events in the local magic community. It seldom happens that magicians from different groups gather in one place and socialize. In the normal scheme of things, Pinoy magicians from different clubs see each other only at some kid’s birthday party and other gigs. They exchange brief pleasantries and news, and that’s it.
Last night, however, was a social dinner that allowed magicians to converse, socialize and just enjoying each other’s company.
Not the least to mention, Mamada and J Over First of Thailand (also on their way to Davao City) dropped by last night direct from the airport. Mamada brought some magic items, props, and accessories for sale, which Filipino magicians snapped up in a hurry.
