Methods: Mostly conjectures?
Apart from the popular view that psychic healing is the cure of the last resort, the reasons that exposures so far failed to discourage patients from consulting faith healers are the implausible methods offered by debunkers.
The explanations include the use of fake skin, thumb tips, latex, stooges, and supplies from a local pharmacy.
Those who have gone to the Philippines and have seen faith healers in action cannot reconcile these explanations with what they have observed firsthand. As a result, they see the explanations as conjectures rather than exposures of the methods
Consider this. Most psychic surgeries are done under test conditions. Psychic surgeons are, therefore, like cheats at the gambling table. They cannot afford to make mistakes, because a single slip-up can cost them their lives or their livelihood. Long prison terms are also a possibility.
A great number of Filipino psychic surgeons are not well educated. Some of them live in far-flung villages. They don’t have easy access to technology, or to pharmaceutical supplies, or even to theatrical supplies such as fake blood. They can’t (and won’t) use stooges, because their patients are supposed to pay them money for the surgery. How could these psychics earn their daily dough if their patients were stooges?
