As a professional magician who offers family entertainment, I feel uneasy when one of my clients or relatives gets so sick that they have to consult faith healers.
I’ve learned that it’s not just ill health, or lack of money, that drives the afflicted to faith healers. I know of moneyed patients who seek relief from their ailment from so-called faith healers.
I think that, more than anything else, the belief in spiritual and psychological means as cures to physical illnesses is the great motivator for consulting psychic doctors and surgeons.
Even while patients from wealthy countries in the West seek cure from faith healers in the Far East, skeptics have exposed the trickery used by these faith healers. Among the explanations revealed are the methods used by psychic surgeons in operating on their patients without the use of anesthesia or medical instruments.
Still, by some quirky reasons, the exposures have failed to discourage many patients from seeking treatment from faith healers. As a result, the skeptics have not stanched the flow of patients from the West to third-world countries. In the Philippines, where faith healing and psychic surgery are popular, local practitioners still enjoy brisk business.
