The SRO crowd that watched IMC’s Open Magic Competition last night roared with approval as competitor after competitor showed off their contest pieces.

Sixteen magicians competed for the top-three coveted places. With their skills, artistry and presentation, they regaled not only the audience but especially the judges .

In the end, when the dust settled, Chairman Cris Castro romped off with the champion’s trophy. Ted Bravo, just barely a year as IMC member, snagged the second place. The third place went to Erwin Reyes, a veteran of Magic ‘To but still a relatively new IMC member.

As emcee Alex Lagula noted, it was a night of upsets, as the more veteran performers and senior members failed to make it to the top finishers.

The contest showed that a performer (or contestant, for that matter) is only as good as his last performance. The results last night should goad members not to rest on their past laurels. If one wants to stay on top of the heap, he must not slacken his efforts, because the young performers (and they are getting younger every year) are hungry. They have the daredevil attitude to try out new and untested routines. That same fearless strategy paid off handsomely last night.

My warmest congratulations to the winners.

For those who did not make it to the competition, let me share some action shots from last night…
